Troubleshooting graphics on a Sun Fire V250

A few months back, I acquired a Sun Fire V250 server (circa 2003) from a computer auction at a local university. When I got it home, however, nothing was displayed on the screen. A lot of searching later and I was really no closer to solving the issue. Several Sources suggested I type “setenv output-device screen” or “screen output” at the OpenBoot prompt (ok> prompt), but both only said “screen not found.

Apple Cinema HD Display

Those who know me know that I’m a minor Apple collector focusing mainly on New World PowerPC Macs. It’s no surprise, then, that I recently acquired a Cinema HD Display. Ultimately, this display has a 23" LCD panel with a resolution of 1920×1200, and it connects to an era-appropriate PowerMac via the Apple Display Connector, which provides power to the monitor, video, and USB through one DVI-esque connector. Overall, I was pleased with the colors and sharpness, plus the monitor still gets plenty bright after 14 years.

MRS – Multi-Rule sed (global substitution)

Note: This article from my archive was written 2015 November 12. Today in class, the topic was access control lists and entries on Cisco routers. The extended form of an access control entry is like so >access-list [name] [action] [tcp/udp] [source network] [wildcard mask] [destination network] eq [port number] The port number can be represented by a pneumonic, such as www instead of 80, however differing versions of Cisco’s IOS have different labels for these ports.
